I'm a 2D illustration student, who is interested in painting (both digital and analog), industrial design, concept design, matte painting, storybook illustration, and fine art.I'm pretty much a nerd.  I'm enthusiastic about everything.  Besides art, I love science, especially biology and physics.  I love writing and making things, and all around speculating about the future.

I want to be really great someday.  I've got a long way to go from where I am though.  Luckily, I still have some time to get there.

LOL.  Do you remember who did your review?
I owe alot to a handful of teachers at CCAD.  I hope you've had a chance to take classes from Mr. McKissick.

Anyway, as for freelance work while I was in school, there was a teahcer who was connected through warner bros.  He got in a pinch and needed someone to do concepts on the fly.  Afterwards, they had my number and got in touch with me for a few more assignments.  So I guess I got lucky.  Otherwise, I would just post on forums saying that you're available for freelance.  Just continue to make high quality work and companies will take notice.  It's also important to know what field of illustration your work is aimed at.  If you want to paint character concepts, make sure your portfolio shows your a character artist, rather than an environment of editorial artist.

One more note, talk to Den Yang if you really need to do some freelance.  He used to do work for Warhammer while he was a freshman.

Hmmm, for the review I had Mr. Groff and someone else whose name I didn't catch.  Nobody really introduced themselves, they just came in, so it wasn't 'till it was about midway through until I noticed that two were staying.

I did get to take first semester electronic illustration with Mr. McKissick (glad I did, he told me I didn't need to take the 2nd semester but I might anyway.)  I also might have him for his animation/comic book history class.  Did you take that?

As for your job, lucky indeed!  Sounded like a nice opportunity.  Who was the teacher?  Is it a common for companies to take part-time design work through E-mail?

I guess I'm maybe not ready to do any freelancing yet.  I think my body of work is generally too eclectic in function and style, and most of it currently reflects editorial illustration more.

I talked with Den awhile back because I also heard about his job.  He said he did a couple card illustrations, but he also told me he originally got the job through someone he knew.

I guess that "...it's who you know" saying has some truth to it!

Oh and by the way I mean to tell you before, but congrats on Last Man Standing.
